Jason White's Heisman, and a Near-Miss Title

Jason White won the Heisman behind a offense that scored 601 points across the season and blew out nearly everyone in front of it, including a 65-13 demolition of Texas. But the storybook ending slipped away in back-to-back losses — to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game, then LSU in the BCS Championship. A dominant regular season doesn't always end the way it should, and 2003 is the reminder that the ledger has to hold the near-misses alongside the trophies. *(Note: this paragraph assumes the corrected 12-2 record flagged in the gap report.)*

NEEDS MANUAL REVIEW: source summary stated record as '12-1' while separately listing losses to both Kansas State (Big 12 title game) and LSU (BCS title game) -- true final record should be 12-2; flagging for confirmation rather than asserting.
