The End of an Era

Switzer's final season on the sideline delivered a nine-win campaign overshadowed almost entirely by what happened off the field — a booster scandal, a player's drug arrest, and a program suddenly staring down NCAA probation. It's not a season Sooner fans reach for first, but it belongs in the ledger precisely because it marks the hinge point between the Switzer dynasty and whatever came next. Great programs have hard chapters too, and this was one of OU's hardest.

Switzer's final season. Program placed on NCAA probation; Switzer resigned June 1989 following the Charles Thompson arrest.
