Game of the Century II, Then Heartbreak

Oklahoma opened the season 11-0 and got a measure of revenge over top-ranked Nebraska in a rematch fans still call "Game of the Century II." But a third straight national-title dream died in the Orange Bowl against Miami, a Hurricanes program that had OU's number for three years running. Rickey Dixon's Jim Thorpe Award-winning season was a bright spot in a year that ultimately ended one win short of the crystal ball. *(Note: the exact Orange Bowl final score needs the manual check flagged in the gap report before this paragraph is finalized.)*

NEEDS MANUAL REVIEW: Orange Bowl score vs Miami listed by source as '20-14' with score-order ambiguous -- PF/PA totals above exclude that game pending confirmation of which number was OU's.
