One Heisman, One Wild Season

Steve Owens put together a season for the ages even as the team around him lurched between blowout wins and lopsided losses. He punished Oklahoma State for 261 rushing yards, set a Big Eight scoring record, and carried home the Heisman on the strength of sheer workload. The team finished 6-4 and shared the conference title anyway — proof that one player's greatness and a program's overall record don't always tell the same story.

Co-conference champion despite 6-4 record. No bowl appearance.
